Looking up a property and appealing a value
- Appealing a value
- Appeal to the town Board of Assessment Appeals, in writing or by e-mail, on or before February 20; then to Superior Court within two months of the board's notice1
- Court appeal
- Superior Court for the judicial district where the town is located; deadline is two months after the board's notice is mailed1

- Deeds: how to search
- Search in person at the town clerk's office (land records are open to the public during business hours) or through the town's online land-records portal, which is usually a vendor system linked from the town website3

How Connecticut handles it
- No county government. Connecticut abolished county government effective October 1, 1960. Towns (169) hold the records that counties hold elsewhere: land records, vital records, trade names, assessments, tax collection, and voter registration.4

Official copies vs look-alike sites
A certified copy comes only from the office that holds the record; reports and "research copies" sold by commercial sites are not issued by any Connecticut office. How to tell an official record source from a paid look-alike.
