How Connecticut handles it

  • Planning regions are county equivalents for Census statistics only. Since 2022 the Census Bureau uses Connecticut's nine Planning Regions as county equivalents for statistics. This did not restore county government. The eight historic counties still appear in older records (e.g., divorce files and court records at the State Archives).7

Official copies vs look-alike sites

A certified copy comes only from the office that holds the record; reports and "research copies" sold by commercial sites are not issued by any Connecticut office. How to tell an official record source from a paid look-alike.
