How to report a correction

Email [email protected] with the page address, what is wrong and, if you have it, the official page that shows the right information. Please do not send personal details or documents; we do not need them and do not keep them.

What happens next

We open the official source, confirm the change and update the page and its check date. If the office's own pages disagree with each other, we say so on the page and quote both. Corrections made after publication are listed below with the date.

What the second check catches before publication

Every record is checked twice before it goes live (see how we check). Three examples of what that second check changed on November 4, 2026:

  • Harris County, Texas: the Probate Courts Department's address was corrected to 201 Caroline St, 8th Floor, Suite 800, after the County Clerk's contact directory and probate page both showed that suite.
  • Maryland: the fee for a full state and FBI criminal history check was updated to $33 by mail and $53 in person, reflecting a federal fee increase that took effect on October 1, 2026.
  • Indiana: the $2 identification security protection fee was corrected as included in the deed and mortgage recording fees, not added on top, as the State Board of Accounts fee table states.

What we can and cannot correct

We correct what this site says: an office's name, address, phone number or hours, a fee, a link that moved, a search described as free when the office now charges, or a sentence that says more than the official source does. When a fee or rule has changed, tell us where the office announced it; we quote the new wording and its date.

We cannot change a public record itself. If your deed, a marriage record, a court file or a birth or death certificate contains a mistake, only the office that holds it can correct it, and each office has its own process. Use the office link on the county or state page to reach it, and ask the office what it needs from you before you send anything.

Mistakes we look for ourselves

  • A link that no longer opens the official page it points to, or that now lands on a different site.
  • A fee that no longer matches the office's own fee schedule or the statute.
  • A county with the same name as a county in another state, confused with it. Every county page carries its state in the title, the heading and the address.
  • An office listed under the wrong record type, for example a probate court shown as the place to get a death certificate.

Corrections after publication

None so far. Each correction will be listed here with its date, the page and what changed.
