Each county has a clerk of district court (elected in first- and second-class counties; elsewhere the county clerk is ex officio clerk of district court).1

Inspection is free (in person or at terminals). District court statutory copy fee: $1.00 for a one-page record, $0.50 each additional page; $0.50 per certificate and seal. District civil filing fee $160.2

What is public and what is sealed

What is public
All case records are fully accessible unless restricted by the Supreme Court's Access Security Matrix, statute, or court order (Wyoming Rules Governing Access to Case Records, eff. Feb. 5, 2024, amended through 2026).3
Sealed and confidential records
Restricted categories are listed in the Access Security Matrix; any party or person named in a record may move to restrict access, and a court may open restricted records by order. Felony sexual assault cases in circuit court are marked sealed until bound over to district court (public sees redacted file).3
Criminal history checks: state repository
Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Office of the Attorney General, 208 S. College Dr., Cheyenne — central repository.4
Criminal history checks: who may order
Fingerprint-based only. Any person may obtain a voluntary check of their own record (Wyoming plus Western Identification Network states), or of another person with that person's consent, through a Wyoming criminal justice agency. DCI cannot run FBI checks for personal use.5
Criminal history checks: fee
$15 Wyoming/WIN check for most applicants ($10 for qualifying youth/family-violence volunteers); +$24 when an FBI check is authorized; $5 if fingerprinted at DCI. Statutory cap $15.5
Divorce records: who holds it
Decree and case file: clerk of district court in the county where granted. Divorce/annulment reports are sent monthly to the state registrar, so WDH Vital Statistics Services can issue divorce certificates.6

How Wyoming handles it

  • In smaller counties (other than first- and second-class), the elected county clerk is also ex officio clerk of district court, so deeds, marriage licenses, elections and court files may sit in one office7
  • No public statewide online court case search: public access terminals (PASS) at clerks' offices show cases from all courts1
  • UCC: Secretary of State is the main filing office, but vehicle security interests are filed with county clerks (unusual)8
  • Laramie County Clerk offers a free Document Alert (via iDoc Market) to warn owners of new recordings against their name/property (deed-fraud protection)9

Official copies vs look-alike sites

A certified copy comes only from the office that holds the record; reports and "research copies" sold by commercial sites are not issued by any Wyoming office. How to tell an official record source from a paid look-alike.
