Fees

Marriage license fee
Statutory components: $25 county clerk fee (ORS 205.320(1)(e)) plus $25 Domestic Violence Fund fee (ORS 106.045); counties may add fees. Example: Multnomah County charges $60 (+$5 to waive the 3-day waiting period).4
Divorce records: who holds it
Divorce (dissolution) case files and judgments: the circuit court of the county where filed. Certified dissolution certificates: Oregon Center for Health Statistics (court clerks report each dissolution to CHS).1
Older records: vital records public
Vital records become historic (open) after 100 years for births and 50 years for deaths, marriages and divorces (for events after 1914/1964) and are to be transferred to the State Archives; Archives sells uncertified copies of some.1

How Oregon handles it

  • County clerk (not a recorder/register of deeds) records deeds, issues marriage licenses and keeps the voter roll; the clerk is separate from the state-run circuit court6
  • Multnomah County: clerk functions (recording, marriage licenses) sit in the Division of Assessment, Recording and Taxation (DART)7

Official copies vs look-alike sites

A certified copy comes only from the office that holds the record; reports and "research copies" sold by commercial sites are not issued by any Oregon office. How to tell an official record source from a paid look-alike.
