How Georgia handles it

  • GSCCCA (Georgia Superior Court Clerks' Cooperative Authority) is a state authority that runs the statewide index of deeds, liens, plats, PT-61 and UCC filings on behalf of the county Clerks of Superior Court.8
  • Marriage records: the state holds only 1952-1996; everything else is at the county probate court.6
  • Some probate courts also handle vital records, traffic/misdemeanor cases or elections.7

Official copies vs look-alike sites

A certified copy comes only from the office that holds the record; reports and "research copies" sold by commercial sites are not issued by any Georgia office. How to tell an official record source from a paid look-alike.
