How Nevada handles it

  • Carson City is a consolidated municipality treated as a county: its Clerk is ex officio Recorder (Clerk-Recorder holds both deeds and clerk records), and with Storey County it forms the First Judicial District.9
  • Marriage certificate custodian differs by county: in Clark County (population 700,000+, ordinance under NRS 246.100) certificates are filed with and copied by the County Clerk; elsewhere they are recorded by the County Recorder (e.g. Washoe).9
  • Clark County district court records are kept by the Eighth Judicial District Court Clerk of the Court (not the County Clerk's office, which handles marriage and business services).10

Official copies vs look-alike sites

A certified copy comes only from the office that holds the record; reports and "research copies" sold by commercial sites are not issued by any Nevada office. How to tell an official record source from a paid look-alike.
